2015 has been an incredibly difficult year for me financially and emotionally. I've always been so used to keeping busy by working and going to school that I don't know what it's like to have so much time on my hands until now.
I began going back to school fall 2014 and did a fantastic job maintaining a 3.5 average. I was also working at the YMCA working as an after school counselor getting the necessary experience I need being that I am majoring in early childhood education. I loved my job. Depression hit me when I left the job for advancement and continued school after summer vacation.
Taking four difficult classes is where I messed up. I began to feel overwhelmed and I jdecided that I would give up. The only thing that held me together was my lifelong dream of becoming the owner of my own daycare one day. Also it that if I gave up now where would I be as an African American woman growing up in Harlem New York. Every day I see young men and woman dropping out of school working dead end jobs, and doing illegal activity for money. I refuse to be another statistic.
My New Years Resolution this year would be to never give up! Never give up on my dream, never give up on school and most importantly never give up on ME! This should not only be a New Years resolution to myself but anyone going through something at the moment. Life does not stop here! I I will continue to make my family proud.
