A motivation C. by Diedrick - July 2016 Scholarship Essay

School: from pre-school to high school, then comes college. When everything changes from childhood to adulthood, and as a junior going into senior year it is frustrating hearing about difficulties of AP classes, maintaining grades, and the pressure of college life coming ahead of me. School gets hard as I advance in classes. Someone once told me that “ as you keep moving forward into school, classes become more challenging and the competition increases just like a gamer moving forward into hard level of the video game”. As a straight A’s student hearing to that advice add more stress into me and When I do not have an A or B plus for the Test or for the Final Exam I would always panic. But I remember one day in class as a junior, my AP Chemistry teacher once said that “Don’t ever let getting a C in class cause you to change your major. You just get that C, say thank you to your proff. And keep going”. When she explain us her college life and the experiences she had, it was intimidating and yet, exciting simultaneously to make me want to go to college.

When I first came to America from Congo in Africa, it was quite hard to adapt into my new life. Learning a new language and making friends was challenging, but I experience so many things from it. Going into high school and taking hard classes were risks I took in order to challenge myself. As an AP student, having a C was like failing. I would sometime cry at home when I received a bad grade in test or having a 79% as a grade for midterms in one of my classes. Having those grades were unacceptable and sometimes it would make me start thinking about changing my dream job. I had so many doubts in myself and Ibuprofen became my best friend for stress. A C for a grade was like a nightmare coming true. I started fearing for a C in a test or anything academically. But many things started to change after listening to the story of my AP Chemistry teacher in college.

After hearing my teacher life experience in both high school and college, I became more aware of my school life. I started thinking that having a C for test wasn’t something that should make have doubts in myself. A C became a motivation. I became more motivated to work hard and never change my passion of the major I’m planning to pursue in college. The amount of stress I had change during the last days of my junior year in school. I became determine and dedication in school. The bad grades become like a teacher in way that I would look over the tests or assignments that I had failed and worked through it. Sure sometimes I was not pleased with the grades I had, but I still did not let it bring me down. I would always do my best to finish my semesters with either an A or a B. School become challenging each year as I advances into different levels of class, but endurance and perseverance along a motivation C will me help get through the end and finish my major.

sometimes a " bad thing can turn into a good thing", a common saying used by many people and it can become a motivation. just like a flower blooming in a manure field.
