Classroom Utopia by Dianne - October 2014 Scholarship Essay
My ideal classroom environment would be a smaller, more personal style classroom; possibly fifteen to twenty students at the max. The teacher would possess many years of real world experience so they can give better examples of how to implement the curriculum; teach us little tricks of the trade. The more books and hands-on projects would get our imaginations flowing and with this it could spark the new idea to cure cancer or any disease.
This sort of classroom would help me to succeed in that I enjoy a more personal interaction with my fellow students and my instructor. I would feel more invested in myself and my friends, pushing me to work harder and push them to do the same. We all need a helping hand and I believe that with the smaller classrooms our teachers will be able to take more time to give us the personal attention we need to succeed.
The teacher having real world knowledge would help my learning and those in the class with me. I’ve come to realize that some of the most enthusiastic, knowledgeable teachers are ones that can tell me a story of a time in which they experienced applying the skill we are learning. They pride themselves in being able to say, “Why yes Miss Cruz, I can show you how to actually apply this in your real world job!”
Growing up my favorite teacher in Fifth Grade would always say, “The more you read the more you know and the more you practice the better you become.” To this day that statement has proven true, the more I research and look in books for answers, the more I learn about any given topic. I implement the steps and continue to practice them until I have them down pact. A classroom armed with up-to-date books is a classroom ready to train the right way.
In conclusion, as you may have noticed I truly think the best way for me to succeed will be have a smaller class, real world experience teachers, and up-to-date books. With these traits and items there’s no stopping my success!
