Overcoming my vision by Diamond - March 2025 Scholarship Essay

As the question“Where do you see yourself in 10 years?” is brought up by my family, I would say “I don’t know” or “I don’t want to think about it”, but I was just scared of the thought of me growing up. I used to stress out when I got asked this and felt that time was running out like a ticking time bomb. However with the help from my peers they were able to guide me to the right path and help prepare me for what college life is along with learning new skills that I will be able to use in the future. In my 2nd semester of sophomore year I found a passion in the dermatology field, but I had no idea where to start, what classes to take, where I wanted to go, and did not know how I was going to be able to set a new plan for college. I eventually talked to my AVID teacher, she helped me plan out what my future would look like and also introduced me to dual credit classes. Over these past months I have been taking classes that will help me lower the amount of time I spend in college and this is something I am glad I was introduced to. Now as I found my path in the dermatology field, I know what my next steps will be. I see myself finishing my last years of medical school and I know I will be grateful to have teachers who helped set up my last 2 years of high school with the right education that I can use in college.

Beyond this new journey of mine, shifting from fear and into a new chapter of brightness, I can see myself in scrubs, leaving class in medical school, and ready for the future that is coming. From viewing life as a junior, I can see all the work I did as a teen in high school will help me for my college career as it started my journey early and gave me insight of the workload I will have to deal with. I take 4 dual enrollment classes such as: Anatomy and Physiology, Dual US History, Dual English, and Dual College Algebra. As these are the classes I am taking this year, the level of education will help me for college, because I need to take these classes in college and since I am taking it while in high school, my years in college will be shortened. With this being my education in high school it is able to help me be less in debt, less stressed out as an adult, and help me graduate early and have a set career at a young age. This route that I am taking will help me be confident in my future rather than seeking away from it. The new exposure to college classes will expand my level of thinking and help strengthen my skills, so as I reach college I will be used to the education level and find the work not easy but manageable; since I used to take these classes at this level before. Therefore, this level of education is enhancing my knowledge and helping me prepare for college readiness and will ensure that I will be successful in medical school, to allow me to feel confident in school for the next 10 years.

In essence, with the help from my peers I am now able to use all the handwork I did in high school taking college classes to help me for the future and help me see myself in the field that I want to pursue along with visioning myself being successful. So, if I were to be asked where do I see myself in 10 years and how did my education help me? I would say “I see myself being a successful graduate from medical school and proud of all the sleepless nights in high school & college that helped me succeed to be the person I am and proud of all the accomplishments I did.”
