High School Tales by Diamond - April 2019 Scholarship Essay
An academically challenging situation that I have encountered was deciding which high school to enroll in. I was stuck between my local high school, Bear Creek, or the more rigorous high school, Middle College. Ultimately, I decided that it would be more beneficial in the long run for me to enroll in Middle College High School. I knew from the start that choosing to attend Middle College would have been a considerable change from what I was used to, despite that, I wasn’t exactly prepared for what was in store.
The beginning of my freshman year must have been the worst out of all the years I had ever been in school. I was having major withdrawals about my decision in accepting my admission to Middle College. I felt like the teachers at Middle College High expected too much from the freshmen who had just promoted. Considering the fact that I had both college and high school classes to worry about, the workload was entirely too much and the school day was exhaustingly too long. There was nothing I wanted more than to give up and leave. I remember going home one day and begging my mom to let me go to Bear Creek. It would have been easier, plus majority of my friends were there. After having a lengthy discussion about my feelings and my future, I was eventually convinced to stay and push through it, and that’s what I did. I ended my first semester at Middle College with a 3.83 GPA. I couldn’t have been any more proud of what I had accomplished.
Taking the easy way out would have been the sore thing to do and I wasn’t raised like that. From the moment I planned to continue my journey at Middle College, I made a vow to myself to not slack off. I strive to do better every day than I did the last. Although attending Middle College was academically challenging, I realized that was the best option for me to expand my knowledge and get ahead in life.
