The Perfect Candidate by Devon - December 2018 Scholarship Essay

The Nobel Prize focuses on the good of someone’s efforts in a particular genre and consequentially promoted greatness in the world around them. Therefore, the two areas I would focus on for a candidate would be what change they brought in their specific field and how that changed the world.
A candidate must shine in their particular field, whichever one that is—be it peace-making, literature, science, etc. I would research their contribution, looking for particular instances in which their area of study was changed for the better because of them. The candidate would need to be strongly recommended by other members of the field who could not only testify to their accomplishments but to their character. As the prize is a longstanding tradition left in a philanthropist’s will, it seems only fair that a recipient of the prize would show similar traits of kindness, compassion, and a desire to change the world--not only for themselves and the other members of their field, but for the world at large.
The Nobel Prize is a global entity, so I would want the candidate to have affected the entire world. The book they wrote should bring light to countries, people, or experiences that are often left in the dark. The medicine they discovered should be made available to those who need it, if possible, rather than it only being given to those who are able to pay exorbitantly. This plays into the philanthropy aspect. There should be a positive imprint left on the people of our planet that creates a want for change and an understanding of how to come about it because this candidate led by example.
I would look for a person who is not only successful in their discoveries but successful in being a person that brings warmth to others, an inspiring figure that makes the world better than it was before their contribution.
