The fundamentals of our society by Destynee - October 2016 Scholarship Essay

Teaching is a beautiful thing. To bring knowledge to someone and introduce them to so many things is amazing. Your enlightening minds with each lecture you give.
If roles were reversed, I'd teach history. History is our culture and background. History is how we've gotten to be what we are today. Without it who knows were we would have ended up. Because of history we have learnt new ways of bettering our economy and establishing roles in society.
Many people may think that history is boring and a thing of the past but, it is so much more. Sure there are the occasional snooze fest lectures that drone on and on about say, the Gettyburg Address. But even that has virtually shaped our world! As a great man Theodore Roosevelt once said, "The more you know about the past, the better prepared you are for the future". It is true that man learns from their mistakes, which also stands for mankind.
Looking back we take notes on our mistakes and use those notes as a guide. We take these same notes in history class and we use them and apply them to current events. History is the wise old man that leads you through in times of distress because they know how to help. They've been there!
I want to be the person that leads all of the beautiful young minds to a plethora of knowledge. Which, to me is reason enough to teach history.
