My Future Career by Destiny - December 2015 Scholarship Essay
My dream is to work in the Digital Cinema/ Film Production field as a video editor and producer. I started learning to edit videos using Final Cut Pro at the age of 13. Everything I know now about Final Cut Pro and editing is self-taught and I continue to learn more about it everyday! Producing videos and editing them myself helps me to express my love for different things and to express the way I feel about certain topics!
Every year, since the 6th grade, I have been taking computer classes and digital media classes to help me sharpen my skills. Freshmen year, I took my first Digital Media class and loved it! I enjoyed learning how to edit photos in Adobe Photoshop and how to animate my own stories in Adobe Flash. I learn quickly, so that class was an easy A for me! I liked Digital Media so much; I decided to take Advanced Digital Media my junior, which is what I’m taking right now. In this advanced class, we learn how to do multiple projects at once using different programs to complete the project. (Our school also decided to get iMacs for this class so that we can have all the Adobe programs we need to complete the course.) We were introduced to a new program called Adobe Premiere. I didn’t like using that program because I felt like it was an easier version of Final Cut Pro, which is what I’m used to using, and it didn’t challenge me at all. The videos I made using that program looked very basic and average. I like my videos to looks intricate and professional. So, since I already paid for it, I downloaded it on the iMac that I use at school. (I got permission from my teacher before doing so!) This allows me to make videos that have better quality and different elements including: lower thirds, transitions between videos, 3D titles, 3D Cinematic titles, bumpers, credits, and many more!
In about 10 years, I would like to either have my own film production company or be working for a well-known film production company (like Summit Entertainment, Lionsgate, Touchstone Films, Paramount Pictures, etc). Getting into a great college so I can get my BFA in Film Production will help me achieve my goal for the future. Acquiring good quality education will help me sharpen my skills and gain the right information needed. It will also show me what it would be like to work in a professional setting. Going to college would make my dream possible and it would help me reach my lifelong goal!
