A Letter To The Old Me by Derek - July 2025 Scholarship Essay

If I could give one piece of advice to my past self, it would be to put my faith in God. As a Christian, my whole life now revolves around my relationship with Him but it wasn’t always that way. When I was younger, I often felt lost. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life, and at times, I even felt hopeless and didn’t want to live. I was searching for something to give me purpose, but nothing seemed to truly help.

If only I had known back then that God loved me, even when I didn’t love Him. I would have understood that I was never alone and never without hope. There’s a peace that only Jesus can give, a peace that surpasses all understanding. Life still has its ups and downs, but walking through it with God changes everything. His love and guidance bring strength, comfort, and direction in ways nothing else can.

If my past self had known this truth earlier, I believe I’d be even closer to Jesus now. But I also know that it’s never too late to start, and I thank God every day for meeting me where I was.
