What makes you a leader? by Deniz - December 2021 Scholarship Essay
Among many people, leaders are the ones who act like everything is going well even if the house is burning down. They have to be calm and cold-blooded in situations that scare followers the most so no one makes a rigid decision in the heat of the moment. They can see the possible setbacks no one else can see ahead of time to eliminate them as much as possible. If not, learn from their mistakes and encourage their followers to do the same. Leaders have a strong power of influencing people, they always know how to get someone's attention and can come up with creative ideas. If they need to fight, either verbally or physically, they are willing to do so for the sake of their team.
My grandma was the leader of our family. Every time something good or bad happened, we'd all go to her and ask for advice. She'd always know what to do. Leaders are accepting and acknowledge that we are a team no matter what the circumstances are. When my uncle eloped with a woman and got a divorce, my grandma forgave him without judging. Leaders are honest and have great communication skills. Whenever my grandma would walk into a room, she'd end up being the most wanted person in a crowd within fifteen minutes. Everyone would trust her since she's never lied even once. We weren't afraid to ask for her opinions and let her handle the situation if needed. Leaders have a huge responsibility on their shoulders, they always keep on pushing to achieve their goals. My grandma would always have the perfect words to encourage us to move forward for success. Leaders are role models, they know how to work with a team instead of constantly giving orders. Most importantly, they are passionate about helping people and always keep a positive attitude.
