At my high school, I took Psychology, which was a class I chose as an elective. I think that Psychology should be a required class, the reason being that there’s a lot to learn in it. Learning about psychology could be one of those things that would make the world a better place because of its link to trauma and cognitive decisions.

If we knew more about why humans function the way we do, people would probably be more compassionate toward others. Learning psychology can teach us to give people more grace, because we all process things differently. For example, grief can be one of those things. Some people may think that if somebody is grieving, they’re supposed to be sad and stay in the house all day, sitting in their sorrow. But for others, grieving might look like being around people to get their mind off things or to simply have positive energy and support around.

Psychology can also teach people what someone's next move could be and what to expect in scary or stressful situations. In psychology, you also learn about how memories work, why we dream, how habits form, and what influences our decisions. It covers topics like emotions, personality, and even how the brain connects to our behavior. In addition, it can teach you ways to manage stress, improve communication, and understand mental health better. It is essentially a toolkit for understanding people and yourself on a deeper level.

In conclusion, making Psychology a required class would benefit everyone. It equips students with practical tools for life, promotes empathy, and fosters emotional intelligence. Understanding how we think, feel, and behave doesn’t just help in school. It helps in relationships, in the workplace, and in society as a whole. If we want to raise a generation that is more self-aware, compassionate, and mentally strong, then Psychology should no longer be optional.
