Just Do It by Deki - August 2022 Scholarship Essay

My academic goal is to improve my time management skills. Throughout high school I was constantly battling the clock, and I found myself procrastinating nearly everything, even easy tasks. This year I will strive to stay on top of my work and do it in a timely manner. This will include staying more organized, better planning, and eliminating distractions.

In order to stay more organized, I will clean my workspace daily. This will ensure that no important papers are lost and will also help with my focus. One method I used to stay organized that I plan to continue using is writing down all of my homework and upcoming tests.

In order to stay even more organized, I plan to write my daily checklists in order of importance. So the most important tasks will be completed first, and if they take longer than anticipated, I will only be left with the least time sensitive tasks. I find that setting smaller and more specific goals for myself each day is more effective when approaching a big project or task rather than jumping into it blindly.

Distractions are one of the biggest reasons I end up procrastinating. Things like my phone or even just working in a noisy environment prevent me from giving my full attention to whatever I’m working on. This year I plan to limit my screen time, so that I can give schoolwork my full attention. And I will make sure my phone isn’t near me while I’m studying.

I always try my best in my classes and put in the effort, but this year I plan to push myself a little harder. Especially considering I will be taking more difficult classes, being smarter with how I spend my time will be an important part in succeeding in school.
