"Path to a teacher" by Deke - May 2023 Scholarship Essay

Hello, my name is Deke Jackson of the KIPP Tulsa University Prep High School and the major that I plan on pursuing is a sociology degree. My answer is to help me on the path of becoming a teacher, but I would first like to introduce myself as a person.
I was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to two parents and the youngest of four children. Both my mother and father would work and by the time I could begin to process thoughts all but one of my siblings would be out of the house. I say all to say that my home life would be lonely, but my school life would be the complete opposite. Very lively and contribute to the development of my actions and how I choose to live. In regard to school, I have attended the following: Emerson Elementary School from Pre-K to Fourth grade, KIPP Tulsa College Prep College Preparatory and KTUP in which I am both a class of 2023 graduate and its valedictorian. Throughout the years, the one thing that stayed consistent is that of my teachers being my biggest inspiration and thus I would like to that as well. My choice in my future career is to be a teacher.
So why not pursue a degree in education? The answer is like an additional way to help my students out besides just the lesson. Something I notice is that school is the primary driving force in terms of the development of children into product members of society. And where they develop most of their social skills. With this degree I will be able to better understand my potential students and thus help guide through life by having a better understanding of why people do things and the way they think. In short, having a sociology degree will assist me in my path of becoming a teacher.
