A Diverse & Inclusive College by Dean - August 2020 Scholarship Essay

The characteristics that make my dream college experience unique are an inclusive school environment in a city full of opportunities and experiences like nowhere else and a school that will prepare me for the world through social, academic, and soft skill training.

Those characteristics come with an environment that I can best learn in; with smaller class sizes, I can build connections with my professors that can help me to get the most out of every individual class I take. Smaller class sizes with high academic rigor ensure the best learning environment so that I can get the most out of my college experience. That academic rigor would prepare me for my future career and give me the education and skills needed to succeed. My dream school also has sufficient interviews, networking, and other professional skills required to succeed. All of these academic opportunities would be a large part of my college experience, and I hope I find a school that includes all of them.

My ideal college experience would have a city and a school community that has a vibrant student life. I hope to find a community at my school and in the city that I choose that is like-minded and challenges me to find new ways of thinking about the world around me. A community helps build the social life that I get to enjoy throughout college, so after my classes, I can have fun in a city full of exciting social events and experiences.

I want my college that I go to embrace diversity equity and inclusion; Actively work in classrooms, school events, and in educating students and faculty about creating diverse spaces. Spaces that are not just diverse in outer appearances, but include a diversity of life experiences, perspectives, and values. Since the school is now a diverse space, those spaces should be inclusive, recognize each other's diversity, and embrace it, which then with the creation of an equitable school. Creates my ideal college that is an environment that I would love to be in, help shape and advance.

In my college experience, I am willing to accept whatever life throws at me. But if I were to find these in an affordable school for me, that would help ensure I have the best college experience. There are many things that I want to do in college and what my school provides to me would help me advance in the next stages of my life even though college is mostly what you do with the opportunities and experiences given to you. If I were to be at a school with a DEI minded school environment, vibrant student life, academic rigor, and soft skill training. That is in a large city full of communities and opportunities would help to give me all the skills I need to succeed in life, and all I would have to do is apply my work ethic and drive, and then I can succeed.
