New Years Resolution by Daymon - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

New Year’s resolutions are a beautiful thing. They give us a chance to start over at the beginning of a new year, and improve ourselves as people. While some resolutions are hard to stick to, it is very important that we take the time to see them through. The resolutions I made this year are definitely going to better me in the long run, and I am very excited to see the way they impact me as this year progresses.
This is the most important year of my life so far. With senior year coming to a close and college in the fall, this is the perfect time to start making changes that will better my future. I spent a lot of time thinking about what I wanted my resolutions to be this year, and after some time, I came up with a few good ones. The one that I think will help me become a student this year is to start do more when it comes to school and extracurricular activities.
This year I have maintained a 3.87 weighted GPA, was elected president of my school and National Honor Society, and I have been an avid member of the drama club. I would love continue the work I am doing, but also push myself further to become and even better student and member of society. I would like to coordinate more events in both National Honor Society and Student Council. I would also like to become an even bigger member of my drama club by adding more tasks to my list of responsibilities I already hold. I want to start dedicating more time to my school work as well, just to bump up all of my grades a couple percent, just because I know that I could do it if I pushed myself a little harder.
I think it is important to make New Year’s resolutions in order to stretch yourself to reach a higher potential. While I am already succeeding immensely in school, I would love to do a little more because I want to do great things and be remembered. I don’t want to be just another student who walked through the hallways. So, as I tread through 2016, my main goal is to bring myself to new heights, just so I can say that I could do it. If I believe in myself and continue working hard, I know it will all pay off. I have no fear for this year, because I know I am destined for great things.
