One piece of advice I would give to an incoming freshman is to get involved in something at the school whether it be a club, sport, activity, or an organization. This gives them the opportunity to become part of the school community and actively socialize with their peers of similar interests. It also allows for the student to pursue a passion of his or hers such as music, sports, and other educational organizations that the school has to offer. Being involved also keeps students busy and less likely to get into trouble. Most school organizations require and/or encourage students to maintain certain grade point averages which helps to stay focused on academic achievement. The best thing that can be done when entering high school is to find a group of friends with similar interests and this can usually be done through clubs and organizations.

In my personal experience of entering high school, I have never regretted joining the marching band. It has allowed me to make so many friends, especially since I was coming from a small private middle school, not knowing a lot of people in the public high school already. Through band, I was put in a group of people with similar interests and found friends that way. Most of my best friends have been made through the band. Although band may not be everyone's thing, one will most likely find some sort of club or organization that will suit his or her interests or passions and the best advice I can give is to join in.
