My Journey Of Learning by David - September 2018 Scholarship Essay

Learning is not just a journey that we face while in school, but also something that we will be doing during our entire life. Even experts in many fields are still learning; epically with new discovers made every day. When people think about learning they might even think that learning only comes from studying material found in books, but we can also learn new things by just living. To ask about how I will be still learning in twenty-five years is such a large question because I will be learning about many different things in different ways.

My Christian faith is a big part of my life, and I see myself growing within my walk with Christ. Many see the Christian faith as a way to justify our actions or that it is just a thing that we do on Sundays. To me, my Christian faith is a more of a walk with God, and just like things like friendship, it is something that I learn about every day. I know it is something that I will spend my life learning about because there is so much that, I can learn about God. I am going to have to seek out some of this information for myself through Bible reading or just reading other books about God. I believe that I will not just be learning about this through the Bible or other books, but God will use my personal life experiences to help shape me through what I learn.

I will not just be learning about my walk with God, but I will be learning while going through the journey of life. Friendship is a topic that has thousands of books written about it, and many of them can be beneficial. The one thing they lack is the human experiences that are involved with growing and maintain a friendship. While I am twenty-three years old I have learned much about friendship that I gained through experience, but I still have so much to learn. I hope that I never stop learning about the value of friendship, but I will always grow from others around me. Understanding friendship can also be a great teacher is many other things, for example, it can help teach me about selfishness. I found the best way in order to maintain a friendship is not just always focus on me, but learn about the hobbies and interest of the people around me. In many cases, this caused me to have a desire to learn new things like fishing. I see myself just learning by letting my life experiences be my teacher.

I will also be learning about the career that I am choosing to pursue. History is not just facts about events, but rather it is about the personal experiences of the individuals. If the objects and documents of the past were to be lost, history would be just stories, stories that could be easily changed or forgotten over time. I am right now pursuing a dual degree in Archival Management and History so that I can preserve history. With this career choice, part of my role would be learning new information. I will be doing this through a few different ways. The first way would be trying to learn and understand history by keeping up with the current scholarly thinking. I do not know everything about history, but I will make it a lifelong journey to learn all I can about the topic. This can also give me the chance to learn about others from different cultures because understanding someone’s history can help me understand the people themselves. The events in history will not change, but our understanding of it will. For example, if a letter might resurface after missing for centuries and this might change our idea of how events really played out. I want to make sure that I am staying on top of these things, and growing from this knowledge.

The second thing I will be learning for my career is how to preserve historical documents. The techniques for preserving the physical document has not changed much, but I still have much to learn about preservation. I might know how to preserve written letters, but preserving film would require a different set of skills. With the technology changing, I have even more to learn, because of it important to have thing physical and digitally preserved. Digital allows even records to become accessible to anyone. I will always be learning through keeping up with the latest thinking the trends that are happening with my career. When I preserve history, I am preserving the knowledge from the past.

In twenty-five years, I will be learning many different things in different ways. I will be learning in order to get a better understanding of my walk with God, get a better understanding of life, and my career I will be learning in many other ways, and I could fill a book just talking about the different ways that I could be learning. I do know for sure that I will be using what I learn to help others around me, and I will be doing it with a grateful heart. I am very excited to be learning in the next twenty-five years and beyond, since growing through knowledge can help give life a better purpose.
