Fighting for Young Women through by Daphnee - August 2021 Scholarship Essay
The first thing that comes to mind is one event that became a series of events. When I was in high school, I was a part of a nonprofit organization that talk to girls about purity. The first event started with just a few of our friends and classmates, we decided to sit down and talk about peer pressure and the importance of sexual purity. When we realized that it was encouraging to us, we wanted to impact the community. Therefore, a couple of my friends and I would go around the community to talk to girls about the importance of purity whether is was physical or of the heart. So we started around our small town, and we got as far as outside our county. By the end of our senior year, we made a video so we were able to reach girls as far as Florida.
We heard a lot of stories from girls, whether they were in middle school and high school, about being peer pressured to either dress, appear, or do things outside their comfort zone. We spoke about how you can stand up for yourself and be who you are. Every girl deals with some sort of peer pressure. And no matter what, we can stand up for who we are and be independent women. We are the next generation and we deserve to have a future where we are not peer pressured into doing things that we are not comfortable with. This group was so impactful to me because every time we talked to girls, I was encouraged that we are not alone. I understand that it’s not one event, but it was a series of events that took place in my community; however, it has impacted me for the rest of my life.
