The Wright Reason to Pursue an Advanced Education by Dante - November 2023 Scholarship Essay

The Wright Brothers never went to college or received their diplomas. They barely had any education. No one would have believed that they could have changed the world forever. They were just bike mechanics. Yet, they were the inventors of the airplane. Some consider a Homeschooled High Schooler to be as educated as these men. In reality, my Homeschool education has allowed me to take college classes through dual enrollment from a university and a community college, even allowing me to receive an A in General College Physics 1. If the Wright Brothers invented the airplane, changing the course of history forever, who can say that I, a homeschooler who has never sat in a high school classroom but has had a priceless education, achieved a 1510 SAT score and a 35 ACT score, and has the ability to gain a University level education, can’t do more?

There’s no telling what I could do, what I could invent, or how I could help change the world. I long to dive into my future, ready to take on anything the world can throw at me. I long to tackle big world problems while founded in a degree achieved through a university. I long not to be great but to do great things. Going to a university where I can invest in my knowledge, increase my wisdom, and get hands-on technical experience in the engineering field I seek to join will give me the tools I need to succeed, whether I am discovering fundamental properties of physics, inventing new modes of transportation, or developing technology that can destroy world hunger and thirst.

I may not have had a traditional education, but that doesn’t stop me from being able to achieve great things. Let us, the imaginative, creative, and artistic, make a difference in the world. Let us, the determined, hard-working, and middle-class, make a difference in the world. Let us, the dreamers, thinkers, askers, and pioneers, make a difference in the world. Let us, the homeschooled, make a difference in the world.
