The Importance of Education by Danilka Ianí - October 2022 Scholarship Essay
Every human being has the right to an education. We would not be here today if we did not have the ability to learn. Our ability to work and adapt has propelled us to the top of the food chain. Many people wonder what the point of education is. What is the point of learning? Why should we memorize and study? Why should we go to class and recite random formulas that we will never use again?
Everything has a purpose. We are beings who require knowledge in order to survive. When we learn something new, the first thing we do is tell others about it. Our forefathers spent their entire lives researching something, and we should show them how much we appreciate it. We would not have everything we have today if someone had not decided to investigate and study it in the past.
Education is important to me because I am the future, as is my generation. I need to be kept up to date on all new developments and events that have occurred or are currently occurring because that is the only way we can progress. Of course, not everyone will be proficient in all areas of knowledge. People typically learn the fundamentals that we are taught for years in school before specializing in their preferred subjects. I learned the fundamentals from the time I was a baby until I was in eighth grade when I decided to specialize. I am currently enrolled in a math and science specialized high school. Things I've learned here would not have been taught to me if I'd gone elsewhere. Even when I decide to attend university and study something else, everything I've learned here will stay with me.
Even though we have made significant progress in recent decades to promote educational equality, there are still people who have not had the opportunity. Education allows people to live better lives. We need education to survive in our society. Learning not only improves your life but also helps you develop important skills such as communication and problem-solving. When I speak of education, I am not just referring to math and science; I am referring to everything. We all have different areas of expertise. Some will advance science, while others will advance art and sports. Ultimately, we all worked and studied to gain a better understanding of what we were doing.
The ability to learn is a wonderful gift. I've decided to make a career out of teaching others. I plan to attend university and earn a bachelor's degree in education as well as a master's degree in English literature. When I've learned everything there is to know, I'll go teach others and assist them in navigating this world. I'll teach them that even if we don't like certain subjects, we must learn them because we are constantly changing. We are constantly inventing new things, concepts, and ways of living. Education, as I learned in Sociology class, is one of the social institutes derived from social meanings. Education is one of the pillars on which our society is built. My education will enable me to advance in life. I'll be able to do things I've never been able to do before. This, I believe, is why education is important and why we should all value it.
