Dalai Lama Wisdom by Danielle - May 2014 Scholarship Essay
The greatest piece of academic wisdom that I have ever received is there is no benefit of worry. As a student that took a great deal of pride in her studies and grades it becomes second nature to panic over upcoming tests and continue to fret long after the test has been completed. After reading excerpts of the current Dalai Lama I have come to hold freedom from worry as a mantra. The preparation that you exert is what matters and no amount of worry can change the outcome either before or after.
The answer to these test situations is to be responsible and study. When it comes time to take the test then you remind yourself that there is no benefit of worry, it will not change the questions on the test or your ability to recall the necessary information. When you have completed the test there is nothing that worry can do to help. In a scholastic environment like today, filled with the highest stakes testing, kids are learning at a very young age to panic and fret about their performance. We must instill our students with a sense of calm and teach them that preparation is the only useful tool in the world of taking tests.
