Aspirations by Danielle - October 2016 Scholarship Essay
If the roles were reversed and I wasn't a high school student but a teacher, I would like to be an English teacher. All my life I've been told I'm a good writer, and all my life I've been trying to not be a good writer but a great writer. The way these words magically appear on a screen or a sheet of loose leaf is like second nature. Therefor I would be an English teacher for three reasons. I love English, my infatuation for the writing of words is outrageous, I understand it therefor I would be able to teach it in ways others can understand as well, and the fact that I want to be a Teacher anyway and I love watching someone get stronger as a writer.
My love for English is quite outrageous. Ever since I was in Elementary school I love, love, loved English class. From writing short stories to exasperating poems, from writing about my life or the life of another, I am purely infatuated with English. Give me a topic and I could write for hours! Essays like these are not a dreaded part of my day. I have fun thinking of things to write about and coming up with ways to potentially wow a person.
I actually understand English, a lot of my friends talk about what subject they are the worst in and you hear about Math, Science, English, and whatever foreign language they are in the most. I am always taken back when someone says they suck at English or that they just cannot sit there and write. Out of my peers I am one of the few that don't dread English class, I actually look forward to it. I am good at punctuation and knowing where a comma goes, I get especially excited to use big words or find out what the next essay is on. Most of my friends come to me when asking about where to put a sentence or if their sentence makes sense in general.
Lastly, my aspiration is to become a teacher, now although my dream isn't to be an English teacher I really enjoy watching people, especially children, learn and become good at something. I was once teaching my younger sister how to say her ABC's. She would get to F and then freeze, she didn't know what came next. We would go through little cards with the letters on them with a picture of an object that started with that letter. She would then take them and put them in order. We would do just five at a time and the look on her face when she would get it right was pure bliss to me. I absolutely couldn't get enough! I volunteered to help her learn how to spell her name, how to count to ten and then to twenty, I loved teaching her things because of the satisfaction she got from doing so.
If the roles were reversed and I was to become a teacher, I would be an English teacher. I chose this because of the pure love I have for the subject, for the satisfaction on ones face when they learn something or just do a good job in general, and because I actually understand English quite well and would be really good at my newfound job.
