Cognition by Daniela - August 2017 Scholarship Essay

If I was a college professor I would choose to teach cognition. I took a cognitive psychology class during this past spring semester, it taught me many things about myself that I wasn't aware of before. How our brains work , what differences there are between types of thinking , how intelligence and memory play a role in our versions of the real world. How technology is affecting our minds and what we can do to keep control of our emotions and our thoughts were all part of this class. In a way it was like therapy, listening to the lectures being posed by Daniel Reisberg. His positivity and enthusiasm is something about his classes that I would like to transmit as a college professor but also his teachings about the mind. This is because of how they helped me improve my life and how it allowed me to create better ground for knowledge and for life.

The class ended with questions about the minds eye and the way we might be in different spaces of our mind , we could be functioning on a dream basis , constantly day dreaming or we could be very much engaged with our senses in the real world.Talking about the wide range of things that intelligence encompasses and how IQ tests do measure a lot of things but don't necessarily manage to understand a person as a whole was very enlightening. The last point that I will talk about has to do with our minds image versus an actual image presented before our eyes. This question posed about images versus pictures was very important to understanding how we might all perceive the same thing very differently.
