Harnessing Time Management for Success in College by Daniel - July 2023 Scholarship Essay
My biggest failure during my education was the transition from high school to Penn State. As a freshmen in my first semester, I was overwhelmed by such a large school with so many different activities. The social life of my school engulfed me and I quickly found myself missing classes and grades lowering. I have been a straight A student for all of my high school career so it wasn't until halfway through my first college semester, I had a rude awakening.
I started taking my academics more seriously because that is the entire reason why I am at Penn State after all. I didn't skip a single class and would study for quizzes and tests days in advance in order to effectively consume the material. Even though I was spending more time on my academics, I still had an entertaining social life at school. When I first got to Penn State I had a false narrative in my head telling me I need to prioritize my social life over academics or else I won't have fun. I found myself still enjoying myself at school while taking my academics serious. This is when I realized the importance of time management which is a quality I have always used to my advantage. I believe time management is the most essential skill a college student can have. If you are able to effectively manage your time you will relieve so much stress.
I'm heading into my junior year at Penn State and can say the use of my time management skills have shaped me into the bright young man I am today.
