Goldfish by Daniel - April 2023 Scholarship Essay

As a goldfish, my understanding of the world is limited to the confines of my fishbowl. I spend my days swimming in circles, observing the humans who pass by and occasionally nibbling on some flakes. But if I had unlimited time and resources, my impact could extend beyond the tiny space I inhabit. I would use my influence to make a positive difference in three key areas: education, healthcare, and environmental conservation.

You see, education is not just for humans. Even us fish benefit from learning new things. With unlimited resources, I would establish fish schools in underserved fish communities, provide scholarships for fish to attend universities, and fund research on innovative teaching methods for fish. Imagine a world where fish can communicate with humans and each other, where we can navigate complex mazes and perform impressive tricks! With improved education, we fish can reach our full potential and make waves in the aquatic world.

But education alone is not enough. Fish, like humans, also need access to quality healthcare. In many fish tanks, water quality is poor, leading to preventable illnesses and deaths. My resources would go towards supporting medical research, funding the development of new treatments for fish diseases, and building state-of-the-art fish hospitals in underserved areas. With improved access to quality healthcare, fish can swim freely and live longer, healthier lives.

Lastly, environmental conservation is essential for us fish, as we depend on clean water to survive. With unlimited resources, I would fund research on clean water technologies, support conservation efforts, and promote sustainable practices. Just like how humans face the challenge of climate change, we fish face the challenge of polluted waters. But with proper conservation efforts, we can swim in crystal clear waters, and thrive in a healthy aquatic ecosystem.

In addition to these three areas, I would also focus on promoting equality and diversity among fish species. Just because we look different doesn't mean we should be treated differently. With unlimited resources, I would support organizations that promote diversity and inclusion among fish communities, and I would work to break down barriers that prevent fish from reaching their full potential.

Some may question the impact that a goldfish can have on the world, but I believe that every creature, no matter how small, has the potential to make a difference. If I, a tiny goldfish, can use my influence to improve education, healthcare, and environmental conservation, then imagine the possibilities for all the other creatures in this world. So let us all strive to create a brighter future, not just for ourselves, but for all creatures, big and small, swimming in this vast ocean we call home.
