What Has Been my Most Surprising Source of Inspiration so Far This School Year by Daniel - November 2022 Scholarship Essay

As this year is finally almost over, it is time to reflect on what made this year’s ups and downs. What made me do the things I choose to do. Why I still go college. What inspires me in college. Today, the answer for me is simple, Art. 2 years ago, and even last year, this question would have been answered completely different. The answer wouldn’t have been obvious for me. I wanted to be an art major but the negative things I heard and read about income security in that field was not guaranteed, I opted for another career in which there was more chances of stability. The first year I mainly did my general education, but by the second, I decided to major in architecture. Although it was considered a more stable job than art, it was very difficult for me to find any source of inspiration. On the contrary, I was looking forward to at least pass the classes so I could change my major without damaging my grades. As corny as it may sound, I knew to choose what I like next time, despite what people or society say about what I want to do. If I wanted to make it work out, I knew I would figure something one way or another.
This year was my first year of taking classes for my art degree for transfer. From all of the years of schools I attended, this year was the most inspiring one of them all. I hope it will not be the last. From the people I have met, down the assignments I do in class, my art classes have been the most surprising source of inspiration in general. I have met people from all walks of life who all gathered into one classroom or studio to study art. The artworks they produce made me tap into a different way of observing and approaching their artwork, life, and I. The classes put me in an environment where it feels motivating to do something, a feature that not many classes have. I am constantly progressing because of it which makes me feel elated, making want to keep on going. The different mediums keep my brain stimulated and juiced. Despite some mediums being more difficult than others, I still feel psyched when I complete a project. A couple of years ago I would never have described something so inspiring about school. School to me then was boring, repetitive, and draining. Now it has been a place where I feel motivated to go to. Heck, even I stay after school to work on my art projects during after school studio sessions. Never in a million years would I have thought to live to see the day. Here I am and I don’t regret my major switch.
