An Honors Student; In and Out of the Classroom by Daniel - March 2014 Scholarship Essay
I have accomplished so much in my two years at Miami Dade College, but, my greatest academic achievement occurred last fall when I was inducted into the college's Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Throughout college, I have always taken my education very seriously. For example, instead of going out to the beach with friends, I stay in my house studying for the test tomorrow. Instead of leaving campus after class, I like to take some time to reflect on what I learned in class and review some notes before leaving campus. My hard work in my studies has led to me being inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at my campus in the Fall 2013 semester and I have been a very active member ever since. This induction has had a momentous impact on me because it has served as a memento to all that I have accomplished in the past and is serving as motivation to do even more in the future.
In Phi Theta Kappa, we organize fundraisers and help out in the community via our "Honors In Action" project. We meticulously plan various bake sales and help out in the local park whenever they are having a carnival; whether for disabled children and their families or veterans, we are there. I always tend to help out as much as I can in the various fundraisers and community service events in any way I can. If I feel like I need to bake some cookies for the bake sale fundraiser or interact with disabled children in the local carnival for disabled children and their families, I will do it. All the effort I put forth in my studies, I also exude in my Honor Society. I do not do it for myself, I do it for my fellow colleagues as I do not want to let them down. As Graduation approaches, I know that I have done all I can do to better myself in and out of the classroom; and it is all thanks to my Honor Society and the everlasting impact it has had on my life.
