Early in our childhood life’s, our educators have usually attempted to encourage us to be open to wanting to know more about college. Growing up in elementary school I always heard that word, college. However I never necessarily knew the importance behind it. I always thought to myself, yeah of course I’ll go to college. Nonetheless I simply never knew of the process that it would take to even get there. I just thought I go to middle school, then high school, and just like that I’ll get to go to one of the best colleges after. I wish I could go back in time to tell younger Dana that life isn’t as easy as we tell ourselves it’ll be.
As said earlier, when we’re young students we hear the concept of college a lot. Some may like the idea, or maybe some won’t be as intrigued. This is why students should have the opportunity to get a glimpse of what growing up into a young adult and maintaining new responsibilitys will look like. However we shouldn’t scare them so much, after all they’re still young kids and we don’t want to stress them with the difficulty it takes to get there to begin with. We want to teach them that with college comes endless amount of opportunities, of course depending on the student.
If I was to be face to face with a student right now, I would explain to them that the free, genuine education we get now and days should be taken as a privilege. I would tell them that they may find a subject they are passionate in one day, and be capable to turn it into multiple opportunities. Continuing to learn is one thing, but there is a thin barrier between continuing to learn and wanting to learn. Becoming a doctor, teacher or engineer won’t just happen to us in a blink of an eye. We have to want it, and most importantly we have to work for it. It’ll be a long process, but it’ll surely feel accomplishing knowing you achieved a goal of working hard yourself to get to where you want to be, and it can all be done with a simple word, education!
