The Fire to Forensics by Damon - May 2023 Scholarship Essay
When it comes to deciding my college major, I have put a lot of my thought and passion towards wanting to earn a degree in Forensic Science with a specialization in Toxicology. Ever since I started middle school, my pathway has been set on something in science. In middle school, I was in a math and science program that allowed me to take advanced algebra and biology classes alongside having science career visits which are how I found out about forensic science. This continued into high school where I enrolled in the biomedical science program and took one additional human body class that taught me a new fundamental aspect of the human body. So, I am really excited about this field because it combines my love for biology, and chemistry and, my fascination with the lab work behind solving crimes.
I have always been interested in chemistry and biology, and toxicology seems like the perfect way to explore the intersection of these two subjects. I am curious about how different chemicals and drugs interact with our bodies and the potential consequences they can have. By studying forensic science with a focus on toxicology, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of these processes and contribute to advancements in public health and safety.
Another reason I am drawn to this field is the opportunity to make a difference in criminal investigations. Forensic toxicologists play a crucial role in identifying drugs or other toxic substances in biological samples collected from crime scenes. Their findings can provide important evidence that helps solve crimes and bring justice to victims and their families. I find it exciting to think that my work could have a real impact on people's lives and contribute to the justice system.
I also like the fact that forensic science and toxicology are interdisciplinary fields. By studying these subjects, I will have the chance to explore various areas of science, such as biochemistry, pharmacology, and genetics. This interdisciplinary approach will give me a well-rounded education and a diverse set of skills that I can apply to different research and analysis projects in the future.
Lastly, the field of forensic science and toxicology is constantly evolving. With advancements in technology and new analytical techniques being developed, there is always something new to discover. I am excited about the prospect of being at the forefront of these advancements and contributing to the development of innovative methodologies. It is a field where I can continue learning and growing throughout my career.
Overall, choosing Forensic Science with a specialization in Toxicology as my college major feels like a natural fit for my interests and passions. I am eager to immerse myself in this field, learn as much as I can, and ultimately make a positive impact on the world through my work.
