Imagine yourself in 25 years. How do you see yourself continuing to learn? by Damaris - September 2018 Scholarship Essay

As a lover of science and a multitude of art forms, I can never see myself ceasing the journey of learning. In 25 years I will be 42, going on 43. By that age, I will no longer be a child and hope to have children of my own. As someone who spends a lot of time around children, I can say I believe that there is always an opportunity to learn from children in a very different way that they learn from you. There is an innocence and simplicity of the way we view the world as children that gets warped as we get older. Children lack the boundaries of distrust that we have grown to develop and therefore see the world in a very different way. I look forward to learning from my children even as I teach them.

Additionally to learning from kids, in 25 years I can see myself learning from art and books. Currently, as an artist, I am only comfortable with graphite and charcoal. I am only beginning to work with acrylic paints, and there are endless styles that I have yet to experiment with, as well as mediums I would like to perfect. There is a great deal that can be learned from art. It can be noticed that in the time I have gained an interest, I have become more patient and pay greater attention to detail than I did before. The love I have for books is forever expanding my knowledge in vocabulary and the respect I have for symbolism and imagery.
