In college being a leader and having the skills to lead is very necessary. Taking charge and helping others are things that people should do throughout their lives. Being a leader can help shape your life and the lives of those around you.

In a school setting leadership is one of the most helpful things one can come by. This is because there are students who are shy, not outgoing, or even oblivious to what is going on. With some to help them they can burst out of there cocoons meet new people and start learning which paths to take.
In college leadership skills should even be used outside the school environment. For example, if an incoming freshmen were to start school not knowing a single person and not knowing how to make new friends, someone with great leadership skills would help them meet new people and in the process of doing that help them become more confident in themselves. Helping to lead one person can have a great impact on all who follow.

In college being a leader and having the skills to lead is very necessary. Without leaders society could not function in the way it does. Without them people may never know what to do, they may never meet new people, and they may never gain self-confidence. This is why leadership skills are so necessary to have while in college.
