Studying Abroad by Dalia - March 2016 Scholarship Essay

To study abroad is the act of a student pursuing educational opportunities in a country other than one's own. Studying abroad gives students a chance to explore the world, make new friends, and have an experience of a lifetime. It gives students a chance to be independent. There are many pros and cons for studying abroad. Do you think all college students be required to study abroad?
When a college students get the chance to study abroad they get to see things they would not have been able to see from where they are from. If they were to study abroad they would be able to become responsible. Studying abroad can help them become responsible because they will have to take care of themselves and their things. They would also be able to see what it is like to not depend on their parents or guardians for anything. Since they would have to take care of themselves they would become independent. Studying abroad also gives them a chance to learn a different language. Knowing more than one language can help them with future jobs.
Although studying abroad can be a good thing there are some cons to it. Studying abroad can lead you to being homesick. You can go all the way to the other side of the world not knowing anyone or not having any relative with you. It will end up having you feel lonely. Some college students may not want to study abroad because it can be very expensive. Some students are struggling to pay for their tuition, books, etc. They might not be able to pay for their fees and living expenses there. Sometimes when you study abroad your credits may not save. That means students have to take longer to get their degrees.
They are many pros and cons for studying abroad. Overall I do think studying abroad should be a requirement. It can be a great opportunity for someone to do.
