From Veterinarian to Nurse by Daisy - June 2017 Scholarship Essay
I am a first generation student who aspires to become a neonatal nurse, but before that happens I must either go to four-year university or a community college. I would prefer to go to a four-year university, however, my family's financial status makes it become difficult to accomplish this. My mother is an immigrant, from Mexico, who went to school up until the sixth grade in Mexico. As for my father, he is also an immigrant from Mexico. But he is an orphan who never went to school, therefore he does not know how to read Spanish nor English. With the help of one of a random lady that lived in the same village, he learned how to count, add, and subtract numbers. Due to their little to no education, my parents do not have a job that can support their daughter's financial expenses in order go to college. My eldest sister is a freshman at Cabrillo College and my younger sister is a freshman at Soquel High.
Has a child I always wanted to become a veterinarian. I enjoyed and care for animals a lot, which inspired me to want to become a vet. I always wanted a dog as a little child. I never got one and still to this, I haven't had a dog. I always had a desire to help others whether it is animals or people. When I was six I would play vet with my stuff animals. Now as I have grown from then I realize want to help babies in the NIC Q. They are just so innocent and defenseless that have an eager to help them.
