Getting Through The Tough Years by D'Allasia - April 2016 Scholarship Essay
My high school experience is something that I will cherish eternally. High school is like an insane roller coaster, there will be a bunch of unexpected events that will happen. You will have ups and there will be downs. This is going to sound a bit cliché, but high school will be some of the best years of your life. Everybody’s high school experience will be different, to make the most out of the four years you will spend in high school here is some advice I wish I would have been given going into my freshman year.
First things first, make sure you have fun! Make the most out of your four years, take the time to look up from your cell phone and be positive to do everything you wish to do. I am a teenager too, and I love my phone, but seriously PUT THE PHONE DOWN. It’s scary putting yourself in a position you are not used to being in, but try and push yourself no matter how afraid you are, go ahead, ask that boy or girl you have been crushing on to go to that school dance coming up. The worst thing that could happen is the answer is no. Am I right? Go to sporting events, participate in clubs, and go to your class meetings! Be involved!
I am positive people have mentioned how quickly high school flies by. You will notice a lot of the time students complain about how things are being done around campus, by going to class meetings and being involved you have the opportunity to make a change, to be able to have your voice heard by your staff and fellow peers.
Second, adults such as parents and school staff also have feelings, they tend to have their own bad days just like us students. But despite all these things, they only have the best intentions at the end. So, ask your Mom, Dad, or favorite teacher how their day went. Forget about the fact that your mom is the person who forces you to eat your vegetables and tends to ask those embarrassing questions about your love life.
I do not want to overwhelm you with a bunch of advice, so the last piece of advice I have is if a teacher tells you to read something, do not just read SparkNotes. Use this as a study tool, but actually, read. Trust me it benefits you in the long run. Just have fun, but also focus on grades at the same time because those are important. Do not rush graduation because once high school is over you are an adult. I remember being younger and I could not wait to be an adult and here I am 50 days away from graduation. It scares me to think that things are never going to be the same as they were before. After high school, everyone takes different paths. Just remember this, these next four years are going to be an interesting ride, but make sure to make the most of it. These years will seriously fly by in the blink of an eye.
