Thinking Outside the Box by Courtney - October 2018 Scholarship Essay

Imagine; you're stuck inside of an escape room. The lights are dim and there's nothing on the walls except a single picture frame. The only way to escape the room is to view the hint of the picture frame in a way that is not so obvious.
Everyone has heard the term "think outside the box" at some point in their life, whether it be when writing a paper, testing out a new idea, or in an escape room. Thinking outside the box entails looking at a situation from a new perspective; one that no one else has yet observed. To think outside the box is to be creative. It's about looking at something from a different angle and presenting it in a whole new way. This creative mindset is vital for all aspects of life, whether it be in science or business, for example.
Scientists perpetually think outside of the box when doing research to gain new knowledge. If scientists always looked at evidence from the same angles, then they would never be able to advance their research. When considering business, entrepreneurs think unconventionally to create new products. Without a creative mindset, new ideas, products, and research would never be formulated. Thinking outside of the box is crucial to develop a diverse society.
