"Thinking outside of the Box" by Courtney - October 2018 Scholarship Essay
The human brain is amazing. The amount of information that can be processed per second is astounding. Many people are very creative and are able to come up with original ideas that have not been considered before. "Thinking outside of the box" deals with not only coming up with original ideas, but also being able to consider others' points of view. It not only means using creative thinking skills, but also analytical thinking skills.
I love pinterest. It is my go to place for recipes, fashion advice, and inspiration for school projects. The ability to use technology to survive in today's world is key. I am amazed at the original ideas that I see on Pinterest. I often wonder "why didn't I think of that?". It is obvious that these posts were originated by someone who can think outside of the box.
In addition to coming up with creative ideas, thinking outside of the box can also mean that we are willing to consider another's point of view. Many times we have tunnel vision and can only see a problem from our own point of view. Thinking outside of the box sometimes require that we remove the walls from our tunnel and choose to see an issue from a different angle. It requires digging into the details.
Thinking outside of the box means that one can be creative but also open minded. Both are necessary skills to resolve a problem. One requires creativity and the other requires an open mind.
