Change by Courtney - January 2018 Scholarship Essay

As a high school student, you get used to the everyday routine. You get up early in the morning, you get ready for school, you attend your classes, and you go home. Some participate in after school activities, such as sports or clubs. Some go to work when school gets out. For many, the routine gets old and monotonous. For many, the routine becomes the most dreaded part of the teenage years. For many, it's time for a change.

For me, one of the main reasons I want to go to college, aside from earning a degree and achieving my career goals, is for a change of scenery. I have lived in the same place all my life. While I do love my home here in New Hampshire, I am ready to expand my horizons. In the fall, I am packing my things and moving across the country to the great city of Omaha, Nebraska, in hopes to succeed as a business major.

As a seventeen year old, usually the biggest concern is whether you studied hard enough for your calculus final, or whether you can switch your shift next Friday night so you can go to the movies with your friends. For me, I have dealt with things I never saw myself dealing with in my lifetime, nevermind before adulthood. My biggest challenge has been my parents moving across the country to Nebraska. I never thought my parents would move almost 2,000 miles away, but unfortunately, life is unpredictable. With nothing else to do, I decided to make the best of the situation and apply for college in Nebraska, and will be attending the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

I am ready to change my life for the better. I am ready to take a hold of my future and make it what I want it to be. I am ready to do great things, and even though this will be a change of the largest proportion, I am ready to see where it takes me.
