Nobody Knows by Courtney - April 2016 Scholarship Essay

One piece of advice I would share with younger students is that you do not have to know everything right now. College, and high school for that matter, is about discovering yourself, so knowing all the answers is simply impossible. So many young people think that they have to have their whole lives figured out when they get into college, but all that unnecessary stress will just make your life harder. Of course you still need to be responsible, but your first few years at school are to figure out what you want to do with your life, both professionally and personally.
I would encourage younger students to try new things, experiment, be adventurous, and not worry about being a little clueless. Everyone else your age is just as clueless as you are, so do not feel like you are the only one who is struggling to understand who you are. Nobody knows what they are doing, so you all are in the same boat. It is okay to make mistakes, in fact it is encouraged; some of the worst mistakes make the best memories. As long as you are being safe and responsible, small mistakes are not going to ruin your life. Worrying about not knowing what to choose or where to go will though; you will be too busy worrying about your life instead if living it.
Relish in the fact that you are young and are allowed to be stupid. As you grow up, you naturally start to figure more things out, so much so that you do not even realize it. So, my advice is to not worry about being a little lost in life, you are not supposed to know what comes next. Just live life as a responsible young adult and soon enough you discover answers to questions you did not even know you had.
