It's Okay To Be a Loner by Courtney - April 2016 Scholarship Essay

Don't get caught up with who is your friend and who isn't your friend in high school. Yes, some friendships last through high school, well into adulthood, but some don't. And that's okay. I know that it's fun to go and hang out with everyone on the weekend and you want everyone to be your friend, but your future, your beliefs and values, are more important.
As a freshman, I really wanted to be friends with the other girls, but we were just too different and it was always way too complicated. Now, as a senior, I know who my real friends are and I'm indifferent to who is and isn't my friend. Most likely, when you go off to college or straight to the workforce, your experience is going to be totally different from that of those you went to high school with. The direction your life will start to go once you get out of high school, may be completely opposite of your "friends".
These two situations may drive a wedge between you and the people you thought were your friends and the longer you are out of high school, the bigger that wedge will get. My advice would be to focus on what you want for your future, where you want to go to college, what you want to study, and where you want to live in 10 or 15 years. I know that it seems lonely to think like that, especially when it clearly separates you from the rest of your peers, but believe me, the you in 10 or 15 years that is living where you want, is doing what you want, and is unconditionally happy, will thank you.
