The Positive Impact of Technology in Classrooms by Corissa - January 2020 Scholarship Essay
Technology has been able to impact our classrooms in several ways. The first being that it eliminates paper products, such as books, and ultimately reduces the amount of supplies a student needs in their backpack. Today, it is important now more than ever to be able to go green and help the environment. Along with eliminating resources, it reduces the weight of books, binders, and papers that students carry. The amount is reduced from a huge stack to one small tablet or laptop; this ultimately helps in letting off the tension in a student’s back from their backpack due to the heavy objects. Everything is combined all together in one place. This generation can tend to be somewhat messy and forgetful, but thanks to these apps on laptops and tablets, everything can be saved to the same place, so students don’t have to worry about keeping track of several different products.
To get away from personal, portable technology, there are smartboards and projectors to discuss as well. From personal experience, these types of gadgets really assist teachers and take the learning experience to a whole new level. There are very few teachers I have today that prefer a whiteboard over their smartboards. The reason being is it’s more convenient. Once again, everything is all together and there is access to several different resources. Not only are they able to access the internet, they can use special pens to write on the board, so technically, the smartboard is everything a whiteboard is and more. A projector is essential in every classroom. The teacher can show a worksheet or a page without having to copy all of it onto a board, which takes time out of the class period. These projectors are hooked up to the smartboard as well.
There are several more examples I could share to make this topic even more strong, but these are the best and most used examples. In conclusion, technology has an extremely positive impact not only on classrooms, but the students and teacher's life’s outside of school. Technology today is reliable and effective. It is also a field that keeps growing every day. Who knows what the standard classroom will look like in 20 years, and who knows how much smarter and capable the students and teachers will be?
