We currently live in a world dominated by social media and just google it. No one has to think for themselves or really even knows how to anymore. As a product of this current world state, I am not an exception. I let google think for me and, what I don’t know, I just ask Siri. To me, thinking outside the box means stepping away from the norm and being an individual by coming up with solutions and suggestions that are creative. Thinking outside the box is being innovative and thinking differently.
Thinking outside the box means being an individual. This means standing on your own no matter what anyone else says or does. This is important because it sets you apart from others. As teens we usually don’t want to stand out from the crowd. We all call ourselves leaders not followers but we dress the same, eat the same thing, participate in the same activities, and all want to fit in the crowd with our peers.
Thinking outside the box also means coming up with solutions and suggestions that are creative. There are many different ways to solve a math problem. I used to think if I didn’t understand the way it was taught to me there was something wrong with me. What I learned is I learn differently than others. I realized this means my teachers may have to do some thinking outside the box to help me learn material. This doesn’t make me feel bad anymore, it is just something I know so I use it to help me in classes. I speak up for myself and say I don’t understand. I am not afraid to ask questions or ask for material to be retaught until I understand it. I draw pictures, write stories, and other techniques I have taught myself that help me learn.
Finally, thinking outside the box means being innovative and thinking differently. Finding new methods to get the same results is the best way I know to explain it. Thinking outside the box is putting yourself out there for everyone to see but not having the same ideas. Maybe I dress a little different, or I wear Adidas and everyone else wears Nike.
There are so many ways to stand out from the crowd. Thinking outside the box means stepping away from the norm, being an individual by coming up with solutions and suggestions that are creative, being innovative and thinking differently. I wish I was a think outside the box kind of person all the time, but I’m not. I do, however, strive to be an individual on a daily basis. I am working on becoming an actual leader and not a follower.
