Hashtag Do Better by Colby - April 2018 Scholarship Essay

The hashtag that I created is #DoBetter. I created this hashtag to mean keep learning so that you can do better than past generations, do better than what people are expecting from you, do better than those lacking the strength to be intelligent. I wholeheartedly believe that unless you know better it is impossible to do better, and that is what my hashtag represents. Gaining the knowledge necessary to continuously keep doing better despite adversity and doubt. With knowledge comes power and that same power will allow you to rise above all others #DoBetter is a personal creed for excellence and expectancy of nothing less than such. Though my hashtag is not only a personal renewed expectation for brilliance, but also a motivator against hardship pushing you to do better than the stereotypes, and do better than your circumstances. All deriving from the fact that with knowledge you can do better than what ever opposes you. Knowledge can not negate all the struggles and adversity, but it can arm you against the world and give you the tools to fight back against ignorance. I believe that education and being educated does not simply apply to a single aspect of life and thus when we learn, we should learn in such a way that out mind, body and heart are all enlightened by new comprehension. Then and only then can you truly begin on the path of doing better as more that just a person, but as a citizen of the world. Doing better not only include improving yourself but urging those around you to do better as well until #DoBetter can one day become #donebetter.
