The Best Study Method for Me by Claireesa - May 2016 Scholarship Essay

The study method that has helped me the most for final exams and any other test is to rewrite all my notes. My freshman year I learned from a fellow student that when you reread and rewrite your notes from the day, week, or lesson you retain more information. The more you read and rewrite your notes the more likely you are to remember them or remember key words for them when asked questions. It also helps you organize your thoughts.

If you are in a lecture class and have a teacher that is not super organized you can take the notes you had and reorganize them to where you can better understand and study them. Develop your own abbreviations so when you are taking notes you can write faster, but then go back through and rewrite not using abbreviations. It also helps if you make sure to write down everything that the teacher writes, because this is most likely to be important.

I've also learned that when you rewrite your notes you should use different colors for different ideas. This helps your eyes focus on a specific set of notes. The visual aspect of different colors on the page will keep your brain focused when you study. I also learned to ask questions when I did not understand something.

These few things have helped me do well on test throughout the years. I learned most of these tips from fellow and past classmates. I am glad to have learned these tips, because without them I would have never done as well as I have.
