A woman in the science world by Claire - August 2016 Scholarship Essay
As a Biochem, Molecular and Cellular Biology major at Connecticut College, I would have to say science has been the most interesting and meaningful subject I studied during my four years of high school. My interest only increased as I began studying biology my freshman year of high school. The most exciting days were lab days; lab days are dedicated to experiments and lab write-ups. During my second year of high school, I took a chemistry class which raised my interest even more. From the first day, learning about molecules and chemical compounds, I knew I would study some form of science during my time in college. By the last year of high school, I was able to study Anatomy and Physiology. I knew I was interested in the subject because I had highlighted and studied a Gray’s Anatomy textbook diligently. By the summer, going into my first year of college, I could name practically any bone in the body, both in English and some Latin, which triggered my desire to study Biology or Chemistry in college and attend medical school afterward.
Moreover, the impact the science classes had on me during high school determined my future studies. I believe that the science classes helped me grow as a student because it gave me a solid goal for the future. If I had not taken as many science courses as I did, or did not pick up that Gray’s Anatomy book, my goals might be a bit different from what they are now. I am very thankful for the courses I was able to take and how they have affected my life in the most positive way. I look forward to all of the courses I will take, especially the science courses, to fully prepare for my future in the medical field.
