To Be Like Ingeborg by Cindy - April 2014 Scholarship Essay
Ingeborg Bjorklund is a determined Christian woman. Though she faced coming to a country that was foreign. She was given the additional struggle of having her husband die during a harsh winter leaving her alone in 1880’s in the middle of the Dakota Territory. Ingeborg handled life’s situations with integrity and relied on God for strength.
Ingeborg’s integrity to face challenges with a Christ like attitude helped me to see that even though we have anger and hardship when can rely on prayer and the Word of God to see us through difficulties. My daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and as a mother you feel completely helpless when faced with a disease that you cannot fix. My prior reading about Ingeborg gave me someone to identify with and to have encouragement that God gave her people in her life to make each day fruitful. God has placed many people in my path to give me courage and strength to face my fears and to give me strength to be strong for my daughter.
Also like Ingeborg, God allowed her to use her hurts to help others. God has placed many people in my path for me to witness to about Jesus and to give sound advice to regarding Diabetes and the struggles facing a teenage girl having to face the difficulties of Diabetes. I have to say, my daughter is a true inspiration to me and is handling her diagnoses or her “Uniqueness” as she titles it with great strength.
