The Correct Path Choosing You by Cimone - April 2019 Scholarship Essay

I would rather walk through the hard path and learn something valuable than to take an easy route. Sometimes it’s in those times of failure where you learn the most, and it allows for another opportunity occur. I learned that nothing can hold me back but myself. I believe having the devotion to not give up is how I overcame my academically challenging situation. Having an academically challenging situation, I’ve realized that there is a light down at the end of a dark path.

My goal was to get ahead at a collegiate level by earning college credits during high school. When I was a sophomore at Central High School, there was new program that could help me achieve my goal, and make a difference in my life. I wanted to join the ACE Program. The ACE Program helps sophomore high school students receive college credits, and designed to help students jump a year ahead in college. I took all the requirements serious and made sure everything was right before submitting the application. It took over a month to finish the application and waited until I receive the acceptance letter. Teachers knew how important this program was to me. They were all hoping I would get accepted.
Towards the end of the day my Math teacher, Mr. Pacho, informed me that the ACE Program rejected my application. It was the quickest rejection I have ever received. The disapproval for the program made it seem like getting ahead in college would never happen. Until I realized giving up is not an option. Even though it felt like I had failed, giving up never came to mind. I knew sometimes I have to go down a harder path just to succeed in life. The difficult option opened my eyes to new opportunities.

I started looking into other programs to help earn college credits. My school had a dual enrollment program that I joined. By taking dual enrollment I earned twenty-three credit units towards my college degree. I applied to a program at Arizona State University and attended two college courses for free. To this day, I am enhancing my college experience, because I learned to never give up.
