Change in Finance Industry by CHRISTY - June 2020 Scholarship Essay

Three years ago I would have said my dream was to become a pediatrician, but being in the finance academy has sparked a new interest in me. I was so fascinated about the business industry that I learned as much as possible about the domain from investments and entrepreneurship to banking and services. Finance is my passion and I want to spread my knowledge to as many people as possible. Although my career path changed, my interests in helping others remained the same. There is so much potential in the unmet need for better money management skills that can actually make a difference in the lives of others.

My future career goal is to become a Financial Advisor. Ever since I competed in Banking and Financial Systems in FBLA and I assumed the position of a financial advisor, I knew this was the right career for me. A financial advisor combines the love I have for Finance and my drive to help people. I want to educate people regarding their finances so they can eventually become financially prosperous. My ultimate objective is to become an entrepreneur. As an entrepreneur, my first mission is to start a program that teaches financial literacy concepts and helps people plan for retirement or long term investments. This program will be targeted to low-income communities and will be free of charge so that it may reach more people.

The finance industry is still predominantly controlled by men figures. Financial household affairs are often dealt with by men. Too often women are told to wait on the sidelines and let the men handle it. Our generation is getting wiser and bolder on gender inequality. I hope to be a symbol of hope to young girls to show them that they too can become leaders in the finance industry. As a leader in the finance world, I will prove that women can do just as good work as other men if not better.

One thing I also noticed was that our financial leaders are primarily American, there are few people of minority races like African American like myself. People of the minority have fewer opportunities to become financially prosperous, they are put at a severe disadvantage based on their race and color. My voice and power will be used to make as much change to this as possible. I will transform as many minority individuals into financially wise individuals. I will accomplish this by becoming a financial advisor and starting a free program to teach financial literacy in low-income individuals. One proven way to bring change is through education. I will educate others about what they can do in their financial situation and provide them with resources to help them get what they want. Too many times do we leave one group behind to help strengthen another group. I want to build the whole society in their efforts of financial stability. This requires the work of a leader. As an entrepreneur, I will motivate others to also achieve change in the finance industry. I will spread hope and strength to whomever I cross path with.
