What education means to me by Christopher - October 2022 Scholarship Essay

Education means a lot to me as a child of 2 educators. Education is a very important part of life for many in America and can affect the lives of many in the country. The amount of education and how much you put into school can affect the position of your future self. Education while not perfect in America can help people from poverty reach a better life, likely if they apply themselves.

Education to me and my family is one of the most important things in your life as it has propelled my parents out of tough situations and taught them life lessons during their early adult-hood. Education has helped me see some potential in myself as well in ways I couldn't've thought of. Ways like having a good school memory have helped with my social skills as well. A good education, they say, can get you places. They say these things are because having a good amount of knowledge and experience can “get you places”. To me personally Education is like a boat that keeps my life afloat due to the number of opportunities it’s given me.

At times education is not great in the ways such as, what should they be teaching us. The issues that happen in places of education like, school shootings, suicide, overall school safety. Education, while important, wouldn't be worth losing my life over and I'm sure many would agree. With what they teach us is another issue due to the accusatory political state of the states. Things like Evolution, Climate Change, Religion, all of these things are hot topics on what we should be educated on. Also the funding of schools doesn’t prove to us that people think it's important when it should be a priority. All of these things are my thoughts on education. My final thoughts on education are, while important to many people no matter the situation, there are still many problems with education and if we improve those issues maybe many graduates will think about their time in high school and college more fondly.
