How to Convert an Electric Vehicle by Christopher - July 2017 Scholarship Essay
The topic I would like to educate others about on TED talks is converting gasoline powered vehicles to electric vehicles. I have always been interested in how things work. About 3 years ago, my family bought a commercially manufactured fully electric vehicle. I was fascinated that it ran without any gasoline. The car was not slow like a golf cart and it was enjoyable to drive. So I decided, I wanted to convert a vehicle. This was no easy task. First, I searched and found an old truck for sell. I removed and recycled the engine. Then I read books about converting vehicles and watched you tube videos on the subject. I researched the best type of batteries and motor to purchase. I worked about one year converting my truck. Every time I ran into trouble, I researched more. I even called the companies that I purchased the batteries from and asked more questions. Now, I drive my electric truck everywhere.
Last fall, I was asked to show my fully electric truck at two different electric car shows. My truck was the only self-converted vehicle at both of these shows. During both the car shows, people were very interested in how I converted my truck. I really enjoyed answering all their questions. Some people told me that the only reason they attended the show was to see my car. During my TED talk, I would going into detail about my conversion. I would show my truck an explain the reason behind my design and battery choices. I believe that the only way we can improve on the current design of electric vehicles to understand how all the components work.
My TED talk would help educate the public on electric vehicles. Hopefully, it would inspire others to convert their own vehicles and improve the current technologically allowing others to want to own an electric vehicle. Education is the key to progress.
