Communication is Key by Christine - July 2016 Scholarship Essay

Teachers are the backbone in this country because they educate the people in relevant topics, they encourage the people to reach for the stars, and they provide great advice during the most troublesome times.
The best advice I have ever received from a teacher was when I was earning an associate's degree at Pima Community College in Tucson, Arizona. My writing teacher, Mr. Lowe, a 55-year old man with years of knowledge behind him, lightly mentioned that he was on his second marriage with a great woman and only had one piece of advice for us on the first day of his class. This piece of advice, he said, could only be learned after his first failed marriage, in that communication is key to any relationship, including business ones.
As he explained deeper into how to communicate successfully, his words were burned onto my soul. Since that day, I have said his quote over two thousand times to others who needed to hear it also and use it in my life daily. I can proudly say that I have been in a successful relationship for 5 years because my husband and I communicate openly. Thanks to Mr. Lowe, we understand how communication is key to our relationship and the ones we share with others.
This piece of advice from Mr. Lowe was the best and most useful that I have ever been given in my life. I hope that you can use this advice, that communication is key to any relationship, and allow it to open your mind to the people around you.
